TRENDnet® Launches Wireless N-Draft Family Based on Atheros” XSPAN™ Technology
Torrance, CA – June 19, 2006 – TRENDnet, a best-in-class networking manufacturer of wired and wireless networking solutions today announced it will begin shipping its new TRENDnet Wireless N-Draft Router (TEW-631BRP) and PC Card (TEW-621PC) products to partners worldwide beginning July 25th. The advanced speed and range of the new technology is designed to support multiple high-bandwidth data streams in the home or office. With Atheros’ XSPAN™ technology, users can now enjoy multimedia content throughout their home, enabling increasingly popular applications like High-Definition (HD) video and audio streaming, online gaming and voice-over-IP (VoIP) telephony simultaneously on a single network.
The TRENDnet Wireless N-Draft family of products, which is based on the 1.0 Draft 802.11n specifications, provides up to six times the speed of 802.11g and 802.11a/g products. These initial products operate in the 2.4GHz frequency band, making them backwards compatible with existing 802.11b and 802.11g solutions. The new Wireless N-Draft family is ideal for consumers who want flexibility, mobility and whole-home coverage, combined with the throughput of traditional wired networks.
The Wireless N-Draft products powered by Atheros’ XSPAN™ technology provide significantly higher throughput at extended ranges primarily achieved using MIMO (Multiple Input, Multiple Output) technology. As a result, these products offer physical data rates up to 300Mbps, which is equivalent to 150-180Mbps of real user throughput performance. This means that a single home network based on TRENDnet’s Wireless N-Draft products are capable of distributing several HD streams throughout a home while providing plenty of bandwidth for making VoIP calls, playing online video games, sharing digital photos and the transferal of data files.
“We wanted to ensure that the Wireless N-Draft family addressed the home market’s growing need for greater wireless throughput and range, while also providing solutions that could be easily added to office networks,” stated Pei Huang, president of TRENDnet. “We have partners in over 112 countries that are currently selling TRENDnet wireless solutions that incorporate Atheros technology. Atheros’ XSPAN™ solutions provide the best performance and compatibility with our existing Wi-Fi product line and other Draft 11n solutions used in home and office environments.”
“XSPAN™ delivers high 802.11n performance, while ensuring interoperability and legacy-friendly operation,” said Bill McFarland, chief technical officer of Atheros Communications. “Atheros is the first to demonstrate Draft 11n interoperability with another major silicon provider. Additionally, Atheros’ three-year experience in implementing 40MHz mode in its products helps the company to deliver optimized performance while assuring ‘good neighbor’ behavior to safeguard legacy device operation. We’re pleased to team with TRENDnet to offer consumers advanced wireless LAN products based on the 1.0 Draft 802.11n specifications.”
In addition to the wireless speed and range enhancements, the Wireless N-Draft Router (TEW-631BRP) offers advanced traffic prioritization to manage the Quality of Service (QoS) for video, voice, online gaming and other streaming applications. The router also provides advanced security for the network with Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) for secure wireless traffic, Rule-Based Stateful Packet Inspection Firewall (SPI) protection against unwanted hacker attacks and multiple Internet access control filters.
The Wireless N Product Family includes the following products and average selling prices for the U.S. only: TEW-631BRP Router – $129.99 (USD); TEW-630APB Access Point – $149.99 (USD); TEW-621PC PC Card – $99.99 (USD); and the TEW-623PI PCI Adapter – $99.99 (USD).
